Where the hearts are at rest!

shazin ashraf

We carry so much with us—thoughts, worries, our to-do lists, things that keep spinning in the back of our minds. It’s like there’s this cloud around us, a cloud that’s been building up over time as we grow up, shaped by everything we go through. It keeps us away from seeing clearly, from feeling the depth of why we’re really here. So, sometimes it's important to PAUSE and REFLECT. And for that, there is no other better space than places of prayer. They are places where time seems to pause, where the rush of life comes to a halt allowing the heart to be at rest. Something shifts when I find myself within the walls of a mosque, standing shoulder to shoulder with others who carry their own silent burdens. People with different stories...stories of struggles, stories of happiness, stories of sorrow, stories of patience. It's like stepping into a different realm, one where the noise of life fades and the souls finds tranquil.

𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀, there are days when my feet bring me to the mosque for my daily ritual prayers but my mind wanders elsewhere, caught in the shackles of everyday hustles. The motions of prayer—so disciplined, so routine—can sometimes feel hollow. Yet, even in that, there’s something profound in that discipline. The act of showing up, day after day, whether my heart is clear or clouded, whether my mind is still or racing, feels like a practice in itself—a practice of surrendering, practice of returning to what is real and eternal.

Since I came to UAE, I’ve visited so many beautiful mosques, each one offering its own kind of peace. But the beauty isn’t just in the architecture or the frames captured from the lens—it’s in the reminder these places give me. A reminder that peace can be found even when the world outside keeps moving at its relentless pace. And that peace comes from nothing but the yearning of every human being to connect with the divine, to escape from the state of being an orphan in this world.
